Bachelor of Science in General Science and Mathematics with Teaching

Build a strong foundation in the traditional disciplines of science, math and technology, and prepare for a career in education with the Bachelor of Science in General Science and Mathematics with Teaching in Temple University’s College of Science and Technology. This 124-credit-hour, interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree is offered through Temple’s innovative TUteach program.

The General Science and Mathematics with Teaching Major explores a breadth of disciplines necessary to support a secondary education in science and mathematics. Students may complete a concentration in either natural sciences or technology, which requires courses in astronomy, chemistry, geology and physics, or choose to complete a mathematics concentration, which requires courses in calculus, geometry and statistics.

Program Outcomes

Students who complete the General Science and Mathematics with Teaching program will

  • understand scientific methodology through laboratory investigation and study of science history and models;
  • have the ability to process and evaluate theoretical and real-life quantitative data, and the skills needed to recognize, isolate and solve mathematical problems;
  • understand how to use and evaluate scientific literature;
  • understand how to design and deliver lessons and curriculums using the 5E model;
  • have experience in utilizing state-of-the-art technology in designing lessons, and be able to teach the technology skills necessary for the future success of their students;
